Principal

Bert Baiotto is a Principal at The Ballard Group and serves as the Principal-In-Charge of Mechanical Engineering, Project Manager & Lead HVAC Engineer. Bert has been with The Ballard Group, Inc. since 2004 and has a total of 20 years of experience. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado.

Along with his associate Principals, he establishes the HVAC system building design criteria, is involved in space planning, and is responsible for providing energy-efficient mechanical designs that meet the owner’s expectations and budget. He designs new and upgraded mechanical systems from the initial Schematic Design through permitting and Construction Documents, through final construction providing submittal review, site observations, and reports to the Owner to verify that the project is being built to our design standards. He coordinates projects with owners, architects, and other engineering disciplines during and following design; supervises and oversees the work of HVAC designers, engineers, and draftsmen; oversees and provides quality control for designs drawn under his responsible charge; provides construction administration services.  He also troubleshoots and provides assessments of existing mechanical systems.

Bert's primary focus is projects where The Ballard Group is the Primary Consultant contracted directly to the project Owner. While this role is typically filled by architects, with mechanical engineers being subcontracted to them. However, we have found that some of the contracts offered by these project Owners are primarily mechanical and we are able to fulfill the needs of the owner best as the Prime Consultant.  We provide mechanical designs while coordinating work from an architect and multiple design engineers from the Schematic Design phase through completed construction. Bert has proven that we have a good handle on these additional duties and can complete the projects on time and within budget, which is very important when working with public school districts.

As the Prime Consultant, he leads many projects for K-12 schools, particularly those for Denver Public Schools (DPS) and Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS), and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). The Ballard Group is currently approved by all of these entities as a Prime Consultant. We also are subcontracted by architects to provide mechanical engineering on additional DPS and JCPS projects.
