CORE Recreation Center
Elk Grove, California

The CORE Recreation Center is located in Elk Grove, California, just outside the capital city of Sacramento. The project represents a significant community infrastructure development and was constructed within the established Morse Community Park. This $31.5 million undertaking transformed 3-acres of undeveloped parkland into a comprehensive recreation and fitness destination.
The two-story, 59,000 square-foot facility encompasses a complete range of recreational programming spaces, incorporating two indoor gymnasiums with specialized flooring systems to accommodate basketball, pickleball, and volleyball configurations. The project included fitness infrastructure featuring dedicated cardio equipment areas, free weight zones, and specialized aerobic and fitness exercise rooms designed to support diverse programming requirements.
The project achieved CALGreen Tier 2 certification which represents the highest level of building compliance paths in California. The mechanical systems utilizes all electric heating and cooling systems including air-source heat pumps with energy recovery ventilation for the gymnasiums and a Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system for all other spaces. Heat pump domestic hot water heating and low flow fixtures reduced the plumbing system energy and water use. The project achieved a 20% reduction in yearly predicted energy use from the Title 24 baseline and an indoor water use reduction of 25%.
